An exclusive and magical Italian experience awaits at The Arthouse Umbria - set in an enchanting hilltop castle offering the chance of an art holiday with lots of individual tuition from well-established British artist, Sarah Bradpiece.

"Art courses in a glorious Umbrian house by ace teacher, Sarah Bradpiece. Unleash your creativity in great comfort. Spread the word. And seriously think about going."

ARTIST

Sarah Bradpiece, MA, is an established international artist who has exhibited in many of Britain’s major museums and galleries including the Hayward and the Serpentine in London.  She has been visiting lecturer at various art colleges including Cardiff College of Art, The Slade London, and UCLA California. After a scholarship at the British School at Rome, she settled in Italy where she continues to develop her work.

Teacher

Sarah opens her home to people from keen beginners to amateur artists and runs a variety of courses including 6-day retreats and single day courses. She'll cover techniques ranging from drawing, pastels, painting, to clay, sculptures and more.

Learn in both the studio, the incredibly beautiful gardens with stupendous views across Umbria or in the surrounding olive groves.

Garden Design

Sarah has spent many years developing and creating her own beautiful garden in Umbria. She now calls herself an Artist Gardener and takes commissions as a Landscape Garden Designer.

She has designed and created many gardens for some of the more established Villas in Tuscany and Umbria.

6-day residential workshop

Sarah is targeting this special art course to very small groups - never more than three people so that all activities can be tailored to suit each individual student. No previous training is required - all that is required is the enthusiasm to embrace new ideas and boundaries.

A typical day will offer the choice to paint in oils, watercolours, ink, charcoal, and to create collages. It will offer the opportunity to investigate the reasons why certain materials are chosen and how appropriate these are to the need for expression.

The six-day workshops will combine creative work both in the studio and in the surrounding olive groves. There will also be visits to local towns and museums in Assisi and Città di Castello, to see works by the masters Piero della Francesca and Giotto firsthand.

Delicious lunches will be served in the enchanting spring gardens overlooking the Niccone Valley, and candlelit dinners will be enjoyed at some of Umbria's finest restaurants. Who can resist?

Full-day Workshop

Sarah offers single day art teaching courses. Come up to her beautiful house and enjoy the day learning new techniques, having a go at something new or simply doing something that you never thought you'd do in the heart of beautiful Umbrian countryside. It's idyllic.

A typical day would start at 9am with a coffee and a chat though the day. Painting, drawing or pastels in both morning and afternoon sessions with a home-grown lunch with wine. With time for reflection and a cup of tea before you go home.

The price of this inspiring day is just €95pp

Half-day Workshop

3-hour drawing classes to take place in the morning or afternoon. 3 - 5 people. €45pp. Alternatively, a one-on-one 3-hour lesson would cost €60

The house recently featured in the Italian magazine Ville e Casali. It has a large studio and a small gallery on the ground floor as well as a library with numerous art books for inspiration. The gardens are beautifully established and the views will certainly inspire you.

The Arthouse is part of a small hilltop castle on the border of Tuscany and Umbria: an artist’s retreat set in an enchanting medieval walled garden. It is located 40km north of Umbria's largest city, Perugia. The nearest town, Umbertide, is 8km from the Arthouse. Many destinations of particular interest to art lovers, such as Sansepolcro, Assisi and Arezzo, are within an hour's drive.
